A GEEKY Look Back at What Was Popular During the GEEKS CORNER Graduation Years

On a recent episode of GEEKS CORNER the upcoming Disneyland After Dark: Grad Nite Reunion special event was talked about by the GEEKS during the show. This led to a discussion about what was popular when the different GEEKS graduated from High School. Below are 5 things (because of course 5!) that were all the rage when the GEEKS graduated back in the day!

Mr. DAPs – Class of 1999

Mr. DAPs graduated from high school in 1999. Here are five things that were popular in 1999.

  1. Film – In 1999, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace was released. Mr. DAPs was there for the midnight showing on opening night. The Matrix was also released in this year.
  2. Music – I Want it That Way by the Backstreet Boys was released. Brittany Spears was singing Baby One More Time.
  3. Television – Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was the most popular TV show of the year. ER and Friends were also quite popular during this year.
  4. Fashion – In 1999, fashion included blue eyeshadow, chokers, athleisure, Old Navy and Gap hoodies, bandana tops, bucket hats, denim-on-denim, and baggy pants.
  5. Food – Roasted red peppers were all the rage in 1999. They were used in many different recipes that found them being stuffed, blended for soup, or even put into casseroles.

Caitie Bear – Class of 2014

Caitie Bear graduated from high school in 2014. Here are five things that were popular in 2014.

  1. Film – Guardians of the Galaxy was the highest grossing film of the year. Other movies that came out where The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and The Lego Movie.
  2. Music – Happy by Pharrell Williams won on the airwaves in 2014. Other songs that were incredibly popular included Katy Perry’s Dark Horse and All of Me from John Legend.
  3. Television – Sunday Night Football was the most popular program on TV in 2014. However, the Big Bang Theory, NCIS, and Dancing with the Stars were worth mentioning as well.
  4. Fashion – There were some memorable fashion trends in 2014. This included crop tops, logo t-shirts/sweatshirts, beanies, wide-legged trousers, jogging pants, wide-brimmed hats, sneakers, leather, and also blanket scarves/capes.
  5. Food – Cauliflower was the big winner in 2014. It burst onto the scene as it was realized how versatile it could be. It was served in pizza crusts, couscous, or even as a steak.
